Note to Self
I can.. I will.. I could.. I should..
I can't.. I won't

'Note to Self' is a fickle inner monologue triggered by procrastination, anxiety and a tendency to hold back. The figure, represented only by her foot, teeters on the edge of decision, her heel firmly fused with familiarity. The foot bears the words: I can... I will... I could... I should... I can't... I won't.
My sculptural work is increasingly influenced by my poetry, and vice versa. Their development is often parallel, as each inspires the other. The following poem developed alongside this piece:
2024 Air-hardening clay, wire netting, acrylic paint, tissue paper and ink on beechwood plinth
Note to Self
I'll take that step towards,
I'll take those two steps back.
My feet are fused with what I know
And not with all I lack.
I ought to lift myself right up
And teeter on the wall...
Dare to see what lies beyond...
Be not afraid to fall.
